The tablet war just heated up with Rcom announcing the launch of an inexpensive 3G Android-based tablet. The seven-inch tablet is sourced from Chinese telecom major ZTE and is custom-made for the Reliance network. The tablet is priced at Rs. 12,999.The tablet was launched in Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata and will be available in other circles within a few days.
The device is also compatible with 2G voice and data. "As the form factor of tablets has evolved from 10-inch to seven-inch to even five-inch, we see that the voice factor will also come into play. We see a lot of texting applications from the device," said Mahesh Prasad, president of Reliance Communications.
The tablet, Reliance 3G tab, is also Wi-Fi enabled and can work as a hotspot. It has up to 32GB of expandable memory which comes pre-loaded with a number of applications.
