First press image and specs of HTC Explorer surface

HTC appears to be going all out manufacturing smartphones for audiences belonging to varied demographics. After the announcement of the HTC Sensation XE, another handset has emerged from HTC’s stable. The latest handset is known as the HTC Explorer, formerly rumoured to be called the HTC Pico. According to a report by pocketnow, this handset is targeted at a budget conscious consumer.

As for the HTC Explorer’s specifications, it is speculated that it will have a 600 MHz processor, which is a Qualcomm MSM7227 chipset with an Adreno 200 GPU. It will run on an Android 2.3 aka Gingerbread OS with an HTC Sense user interface built on top of it. As for the screen, it will have a 3.2-inch HVGA display with a resolution of 320 x 480. In terms of storage, the Explorer will have 512 MB ROM and 384 MB RAM. There will also be a 2GB microSD card bundled with the handset and one can upgrade it up to 32GB. Apart from this, the smartphone will feature a 5MP camera with auto focus and an LED flash.

The HTC Explorer should be available across European and Asian markets from November. As of now, there is no word out yet on the pricing of this handset, but judging by the specifications it should not be too harsh on the pocket.
