iPad 3 to be bigger and faster

If you thought that the iPad 3 was going to replace the iPad 2, you may, like many others, be mistaken. X-bit Labs believes that the iPad 3 will be a more superior model than the iPad 2. It’s bound to sell a price higher than the existing iPad 2. The 9.7-inch screen for one is very likely to use a 2048 x 1536 resolution panel, which will definitely be denser than the ones used, so far. Power consumption will take a hit, as well, so a larger battery will have to be used on the iPad 3. There has been a lot of talk about the iPad 3 being powered by a new processor.

While the details known aren’t confirmed, the iPad 3 maybe powered by an Apple A6 processor, to be produced by TSMC. Apple might also choose to go with the existing A5 processor, but with a speed increment of roughly 200MHz and also a memory upgrade to 1GB from the existing 512 MB. If the A6 is chosen, then this could be yet another reason for battery capacity to be bumped up. This might cause the iPad 3 to be thicker than the existing iPad 2. If all goes well, the iPad 3 should be released sometime in the first quarter of 2012.
