After Spice with the Mi-410, now Micromax is trying to up the ante by introducing the first dual-core Android phone under Rs. 20,000. The phone in question is the A85, which is supposed to have a 3.8-inch screen and will be launching towards the year end.
While details are still a bit sketchy, some of the specifications are known to us. The resolution of the screen is 800 x 480 and will support HSDPA and HSUPA. Internal storage should be around 8GB with 512 MB of RAM for the system. The megapixel count of the camera is still uncertain, but rumour has it that it will either be a 5MP or 8MP shooter. Coming to the dual-core CPU, we will see Nvidia’s Tegra 2 processor powering the phone along with Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).
The main USP of this phone, however, is going to be gesture control-based UI, which Micromax is currently working on. With the front camera tracking your hand movement, you’ll be able to, for instance, wave your hand to unlock the screen and so on. This is an interesting concept that’s sure to differentiate their offering, but whether or not it offers any real practical value remains to be seen and will entirely depend on how it's implemented.
