TRAI: From Sep 27 Mobile Users Can Send Only 100 SMS per Day

TRAI would be initiating measures to shackle telemarketers with new regulations such as limiting the number of SMS-es they could send without registering themselves as telemarketers. As it turns out, that directive will function as a double-edged sword as it will prevent regular users from sending over 100 messages a day.

While speaking to the Times of India, an official from the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) said that while it would be relatively easy to monitor pre-paid customers, the number of messages sent by post-paid users would only be available at the end of the month. The official also rightly pointed out that the directive would hurt users if they wanted to send messages in an emergency.

The other directives by TRAI include limiting telemarketing calls from 9AM to 9PM and the option for regular users to completely or selectively opt out of telemarketing calls.
