Image and specifications of the quad-core LG X3 revealed.

It appears that the launch of quad-core handsets may arrive sooner than expected. As per a report yesterday, HTC had sent out invites to a few tech websites, regarding a media event that is scheduled to take place on the 26th of February, 2012, just ahead of MWC. Since it is a major event, all indications point to a major product announcement, which could possibly be the world’s first quad-core smartphone, the HTC Edge. However, as per a report by Pocketnow, it appears that LG, too have jumped on the bandwagon and may possibly unveil a quad-core handset of their own before HTC.

The report shows off a press image of the handset and they have a few specifications also to go by of what LG is calling this quad-core handset, the X3. Here is a look at what specifications are expected to feature in the LG X3.

1.> Android Ice Cream Sandwich
2.> Quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset
3.> 4.7-inch display that sports a resolution of 1280 x 720
4.> 16GB internal storage
5.> 8MP rear camera
6.> 1.3MP front facing camera
7.> Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi, NFC
8.> LTE capabilities
9.> 2000mAh battery

Apart from this, the report states that the handset will be really slim measuring at below 9mm. No other information is available on the handset, but the report expects a MWC announcement with a possible release during the latter half of the second quarter of 2012. With LG set to launch the X3, HTC set to debut the Edge and Samsung probably to introduce the Galaxy S III all supposedly sporting quad-core processors and all set to make an official appearance by February, the world will have a lot to choose from. But the question remains if they will bundle batteries with it that are capable of handling the load. Poor battery performance appears to be the most consistent issue faced by almost all smartphone users these days and manufacturers should make a fix for this alongside launching super fast handsets in the market. Let us know your reactions about LG launching the X3 and the growing trend of quad-core smartphones in the comments below.
