Samsung Galaxy mini 2 S6500 promo picture leaked .

We now have one of the possible contenders that we can expect at Samsung’s booth at MWC. It’s not a particularly exciting phone but it is a necessary addition to plug the gap between the Galaxy Y and the aging Galaxy Ace. Presenting the Galaxy mini 2, a mainstream phone which should launch around the Rs.10,000 price bracket.

GSMArena got an inside tip in the form of a promo photograph which shows the Galaxy mini 2 and a few of its main specifications. Compared to the current Galaxy mini, it’s an upgrade as it now features a larger 3.3-inch touch screen and higher HVGA resolution. The processor is also bumped up to 800MHz (same as the Ace) and we now have a generous 3GB of internal storage. The phone will be running Gingerbread on launch but given the specifications, and ICS update seems unlikely. The phone will also retain the 7.2Mbps HSDPA support from the first phone although it’s tough to see from the picture if there’s a front facing camera. Like all their phones, the Galaxy mini 2 will also feature a stripped down version of TouchWiz and will include their own ChatON app.

The design of the phone looks pretty good and the youthful colour indicates it will be targeted at a younger audience. While the front bears a resemblance to the old phone, the rear looks similar to the Galaxy S, with a slight hump towards the bottom. The phone also doesn’t appear to have an LED flash for its 3MP camera but that would be expecting a bit too much. With a date set to “Feb 2012”, that clearly points towards an MWC announcement.
