At an event held in San Francisco, Apple head honcho, Tim Cook announced an all new Apple TV device. It was one of the few products being showcased, including the key product - iPad. The Apple TV has seen fair success in the past and Apple is continuing to develop it further. This new version would be the third variation of the original Apple TV. A few visuals of the product and the interface were shown off at the event. The interface seems to have been influenced by the other iOS designs. There’s clear presence of large icons and cover when it comes to music and movies. Eddy Cue, Senior VP, Internet Software and Services was the one who showed off the device.
While the presentation was very brief, Eddy highlighted a few features of the new device. The new version also includes the Genius feature found for music, movies. There’s even close integration with other Apple products, for example, the iPhone. Photos shot on the iPhone would be easily streamed to the new Apple TV. Airplay is what would be used to allow users to stream content to the Apple TV. All of the features sync well with the recently launched iCloud service and also iTunes Match. There are also some benefits of using the iPad and the iPhone 4S. Users would be able to stream their screen right to their TV, which lets them view web pages, games and presentations with ease. Users can also download a free app for their iOS devices, which will enable them to use those devices as remotes.
Apple boasts of variety of content available to its customers - some 15,000 movies and 90,000 TV episodes are present on the iTunes Store. Some of the content may not be accessible by customers based outside the U.S. There’s also a ton of content, however, available through free online video sources, such as YouTube, Flickr and Vimeo. While there’s no official date on when the Apple TV will be launched in Indian markets yet, the product is said to launch on the 16th of March for $99 (roughly Rs.5,000)
