Zinglife launches the Z97T 3G Android tablet in India.

Zinglife has pulled the wraps off their latest tablet offering, the Z97T. This is a 9.7-inch touchscreen tablet with a capacitive screen and is powered by a 1GHz CPU. At just 9.1mm in thickness, it’s one of the thinnest Android tablets in the market today. Zinglife has priced the Z97T at Rs.19,999, but the street price should be a little less. The tablet will come with Gingerbread and will accept 3G SIM cards, although not for calling purposes, but for just data and messaging. The tablet will also feature HDMI and a front facing camera. The interesting bit is that Zinglife say that the tablet will be getting Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich somewhere down the line. Whether that will actually happen, is yet to be seen.

We had reviewed the company’s first crack at an Android tablet, way back in June 2011 and we weren’t too fond of it back then. Other than the fact that it was a really bad rip-off of the iPad, it wasn’t very functional, either, in terms of design, since it failed to deliver on almost every count. We hope the build quality has improved in the new iteration and the promise for an Ice Cream Sandwich update is a nice thought. We don’t see many tablets out there with a 9.7-inch screen and it’s a bit clear that they’re going after the iPad as they even mention how much cheaper this tablet is compared to Apple’s offering. There’s not much to tell from the press image, as it doesn’t appear to be the actual product, itself. The front facing camera seems to be placed in a rather weird position in the corner. We’ll know more on how the tablet really is once we have a go at it, so stay tuned.
