Gmail, Google Play Books and Street View all receive minor updates.
A trio of Google applications that are more than likely installed on your device have updates awaiting for you on the Play Store. Gmail, Google Play Books and Street View for Google Maps all have new versions with improvements and enhancements. Keep reading for all the juicy details and download links.
First up, Gmail version 4.0.5. This new version mainly applies to the small percentage of people in the community with Honeycomb-based Android devices. If you are in this group, you will now get the Android Gmail 4.0 experience that comes stock with Ice Cream Sandwich. This means you will get the following features:
Swipe to move between newer and older conversations
Tap your account to access Recent labels
Set custom notifications for individual labels
Sync last 30 days of messages so you can read and search messages faster both online and offline.
If you are still rocking an Android 2.2 (Froyo) or 2.3 (Gingerbread) device, you will get:
New Labels API for 3rd-party app developers
Performance improvements
Download GMail.
Next, we’ve got Google Play Books (we’re still trying to figure out how one would play a book). Froyo and Gingerbread users, this applies directly to you.
New UI for Android 2.2 and 2.3 with 3D page-turn animation.
In-book search works offline.
New home screen shortcut for a single book.
Screen stays on during TTS
Download Google Play Books.
And last, but not least, we’ve got Street View on Google Maps. For a version number, we’re looking at 1.7.2.0 with added action bar for devices with Android 4.0 and higher. Additionally, Street View is now available in Russia and South Korea. As you can see, these updates aren’t major by any means, but you’ll still want to make sure you’ve got the latest version on your device as soon as possible.
