Back in 2011, when Sony’s handsets were launched under the Sony Ericsson banner, the brand had announced that their entire 2011 portfolio would be receiving the latest Android operating system upgrade, which is Ice Cream Sandwich. A few days ago, the brand announced that by mid-April, a number of 2011 Xperia handsets would be receiving the update in a phased rollout. The handsets that would be served Ice Cream Sandwich first would be the Xperia Arc S, Xperia Neo V and Xperia Ray. As per a blog post by Sony, the brand has officially announced the rollout of the latest Android OS for the handsets mentioned above.

As per the post by Sony, the blog post states, “The software will initially be made available for Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray for consumers in Sweden, Denmark, Iceland, Finland and Norway. For the above models, the software rollout will continue over the next 4-6 weeks, becoming available in other global markets – we will update you here on the blog when additional markets can upgrade.” The post goes on to state, “Following on, Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman will receive their scoop starting from the end of May/early June.”
The post provides some details as to how the OS can be installed on one’s smartphone. All one needs to do is connect their smartphone to a PC or Mac and then click here to download the software update on to their computer that is relevant for their handset.
As of now, it appears that the rollout will be made available only for Sony Ericsson Xperia users in the Nordic region of Europe. Sony, however does provide timely updates as to when their software updates will rollout. The brand has been very consistent regarding providing information and the brand will provide an update as to when it will be available across the other markets in the world. Those of you who have received the update, do let us know your thoughts on it in the comments section below.
