BSNL slices mobile data usage charges by 75%
In an ambitious decision made to further strengthen its position in the mobile data market, state-run operator, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has slashed the charges for mobile data usage by a whopping 75 percent for their postpaid users, reports Teleguru.in. The report further reveals that now charges for additional usage beyond free data usage for both 2G and 3G postpaid data plans will be a revised 1paisa/ 10 KB, instead of the previous 4 paisa/10 KB from 1st June, 2012.
The report further adds that the revised rates will pertain to roaming as well as home networks. Needless to add, such a sharp cut in the data plans will be welcomed with open arms by the operator's subscribers, since this way the mobile data services will get all the more affordable. All the above mentioned tariffs for the data use will come into effect from June 1, 2012. Elaborating on further on the latest development, the report added, "Additional data usage charges for 2G & 3G postpaid data plans revised from 4 p/10 KB to 1p/10KB. Data usage charges for 2G & 3G voice plan customers not using any data plan revised from 4 p/10 KB to 1p/10KB. The 1 p/10KB rates will be applicable in both Home as well as roaming networks."
Another report by TelecomGyaan adds that, "...... all other Telecom Operators offer 2GB Data in 2G for about Rs. 100 to Rs. 149 (depending upon the operator & the circle). So as a result of these observation, the famous Rs. 98 pack that used to offer 2GB data would now offer 1250MB only with a validity of 30 days. Also a new Pack priced at Rs. 125 has been introduced (in line with tariff charged by other telecom operators), it offer 2.5GB of Data with a validity of 30 days. The same plan is for Postpaid customers also at a monthly rental of Rs. 111."
