Apple will now offer the new @iCloud.com email domain to the existing and new iCloud registrants.
Apple will offer the iCloud.com domain name bearing email address with the iOS 6 update. Apple has updated its cloud storage service - iCloud.com and along with new features, the company will be offering @iCloud.com domain name to new as well as existing users. Since the Me.com is being phased out, the @ me.com email addresses will be converted to @ icloud.com. MacRumors noted that the Mail app in the upcoming iOS 6 update will support iCloud email addresses by default.
Apple has changed its online services at least three times till now and the iCloud.com is the fourth iteration. Starting off as iTools, the online services then changed to .Mac and then me.com service. Finally Apple announced the new iCloud.com service for taking backup, storing files and other purposes.
The iOS 6 beta 3 has been pushed to developers and the release notes contains a note that states that the existing users will get the @iCloud.com domain name support. Also the new folks who register for Apple ID will get the @iCloud.com email and username whenever the iOS 6 is released.
Apple is yet to clarify what will happen to the old @Mac.com and @ me.com email address holders and users. Will those emails get redirected to the new @ icloud.com? Of course that will be taken care of and it is most likely that Apple will continue to support the older domains. That is to ensure proper delivery of the messages and smoother operations for its loyal users.
