Atrix HD appears on Motorola website ahead of official announcement

The Motorola Droid army appears to be arriving in droves. The brand has unveiled a range of handsets in the recent past, the most recent of which are the Defy XT and the Defy Mini. A few months ago, the brand had taken the wraps off the Motorola Atrix 2 in India and it appears that the folks who designed the official website of Motorola in the US have jumped the gun and put up a page of the successor to this handset - known as the Atrix HD - ahead of its official unveiling.

As per a report by CNET, a few days ago, a splash page appeared on the official Motorola website in the US which showed off the Atrix HD’s specifications as well as a sign up button. The page has since been removed but the specifications of this upcoming handset are available online for the entire world’s viewing pleasure. This is a major spoiler for the brand and when they do officially announce the handset, there may be nothing new to actually show off.

Here is a quick look at some of the highlighted specifications of the unannounced Motorola Atrix HD:

  • Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • 1.5GHz dual-core processor
  • 4.5-inch HD ColorBoost display finished with Corning Gorilla Glass
  • On-screen navigational buttons
  • 8MP rear camera
  • 1.3MP front facing camera for video calling
  • 1GB RAM
  • 8GB internal storage, expandable up to 32GB
  • LTE capabilities
  • 1780mAh battery

As of now, there is no word regarding the handset’s pricing and availability but judging by the image, it appears that it will be first available on US carrier AT&T's network. At the time of the official announcement, the important details like global availability should be known. Hopefully the brand does not take a long time to launch this handset here in India.

In a related report by Droid Life, the Android dedicated website states, “The model number is listed as MB886. For those not familiar with Motorola’s model number naming scheme, anything in the 900s has been reserved for their top tier line in the past. That doesn’t necessarily mean that this phone is some slouch, being in the 800s and all.”

Motorola has faced an overall average reception in India in recent times, especially as far as their smartphones are concerned. Only the ultra slim Motorola RAZR has made a significant impact in our country. So hopefully this handset comes to India a lot faster than the Atrix 2 did and that may be the only way it can make it big here. But for those of you who can’t wait for the Atrix HD to arrive, the Atrix 2 is available in India with a price tag of Rs. 21,289.
