BlackBerry messenger for BB OS 10 to get video chat support

RIM has also promised that support for BB OS 7 devices will be available after OS 10 is launched.

Research in motion(RIM) had announced the BlackBerry OS 10 earlier this year and instead of it arriving this year it is now expected next year. But even this delay comes with great news as RIM is adding new features to the OS 10.

Latest in this regard is the inclusion of video calling feature that will come with the upcoming BlackBerry OS 10.

RIM, chief executive officer, Thorsten Heins confirmed to Phonedog.com during a meeting that "the BlackBerry 10 version of the BlackBerry Messenger service will feature video chat support.

The bottlenecks in releasing BlackBerry OS 10 is not development of OS but addition of new features like full touch, apps market, video calling and optimised processor for smoother experience.

It has already been made clear by RIM that the company is relying on the BlackBerry OS 10 big time and certainly does not want anything to go wrong with the launch this time.
In addition to the video calling for BBM RIM will be making a large number of applications available for the BlackBerry 10 platform along with newer devices that will offer better features and user experience all together.

RIM however has clarified that is not interested in doing away with the OS 7 based devices. The company will continue to manufacture and make available BlackBerry OS 7 based devices to different countries even after the launch of the BlackBerry OS10.

Thorsten Heins also commented that BlackBerry 7 devices will live on until RIM can release a "full portfolio" of BlackBerry 10 products.

The initial BlackBerry 10 devices will occupy the high-end of RIM's lineup, which Heins said will consist of fewer products, while the BlackBerry 7 handsets will fill in the entry-level and mid-range areas."
