As expected, Amazon took the wraps off its all new tablet product at a press event in Los Angeles. Dubbed as Amazon Kindle Fire HD, the new tablet comes with 7-inch (1280x800p) and 8.9-inch IPS display with 1920x1200p resolution. Company has also announced a 4G LTE version of the 8.9-inch display tablet.

According to Amazon, new Kindle Fire HD is powered by Texas Instruments OMAP dual-core processor, and comes with dual stereo speakers (Dolby Digital Plus), improved Wi-Fi connectivity, 16GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi, HDMI out, Bluetooth, and HD front camera.

On the software part, Fire HD also runs on Android with customisations to the core. The UI is similar (but improved) to what we have seen in Kindle Fire – Carousel and more.

The retail giant also added plethora of software enhancements that will keep you drooling. Some of the prominent features are Whispersync for Games/Audiobooks (syncs your progress), Custom Facebook and Skype apps, Kindle FreeTime (for parental control), Immersion Reading (offers integrated narration from professionally recorded sources) and X-Ray (books/media viewing companion).

The seven-inch version of Amazon Kindle Fire HD has been priced at USD 199 and will start shipping from Sep 14, 2012. On the other hand, the 8.9-inch version will start shipping from November 20th and has been priced at USD 299 for 16GB Wi-Fi only model and $499 for the 32GB 4G LTE model. You can pre-order both the versions starting today.
