As Apple releases its own Maps (ditching Google Maps) as a part of iOS 6 update today, Google has released an update for Maps on Android. The new update aims to make it easier for users to search for places on Android phones, the new update will also bring personalize searches on maps.
After today’s update, Google Maps will better sync across the devices, which we have already started to notice. So, suppose you search for a shop or restaurant on Google Maps on your desktop and later when you are visiting that place and you take out your Android phone to check its exact location, you won’t have to type the whole shop or restaurant again as the Maps app, which is already synced, will automatically suggest it as you start to type in the Google Maps search box.
“Just make sure you’re signed in to Google Maps and your web history is enabled to get a number of new benefits including search and directions history. When you start to type a place or directions into the search box on your Android device, you’ll see suggestions for directions and locations that you’ve previously searched for – making it easier to quickly find directions on the go,” Google noted a blog post.
Users will also be able to look up locations they have previously searched, under My Places. They will also save be able to save their work and home addresses so they can just type “work” or “home” instead of full address at the time of looking directions.

Single-handed zoom; double tap, then hold down your finger and slide to zoom.
