Handwriting recognition for Google's mobile search launched in India

Now searching through the Google India home page using a smartphone is as easy as writing with the latest handwriting recognition in Google India as well.

Internet search engine giant Google has announced yet another feature for Indian Android and iPhone users by adding support for handwriting recognition in the mobile and tablet versions of google.co.in (Google search India homepage) as well. Called Handwrite, the new feature allows users to simply write or scribble anything on the device's touchscreen and that is instantly translated to related search.

Especially useful for bigger screen devices, it actually helps users cut down time spent typing using a keyboard on their device. Handwrite offers suggestions while giving users the flexibility to type anything in search, even the unrecognized word for which users need to change the language or dictionary options of the device.

Google had implemented handwriting recognition on the mobile and tablet versions of Google.com earlier this year and has also enabled it on the Indian Google search website.

To enable the new Google Handwrite, users simply need to visit www.google.com/preferences on the native web browser. From the list of settings, enable the Handwrite settings and tap on the Save button to confirm the changes.

After that, go back to the home page and tap on the Handwrite icon in the bottom right corner of the page.

The new Handwrite feature for google.co.in is supported by smartphones running Android 2.3 Gingerbread or higher and iOS 5.0 or newer versions.
