Samsung may release a Galaxy S III mini by end of this year

For a couple of years now; rumours have floated around claiming that Apple would introduce a miniature version of their flagship iPhone. This handset had been referred to as the iPhone mini or the iPhone nano. Somehow, the idea of this handset did not come to fruition. We still see an iPhone featuring a display size of 3.5-inches. Since Apple has not yet done it,  the brand’s biggest competitor, Samsung may be preparing a smaller-sized version of the Galaxy S III, which will be known as the Galaxy S III mini.

According to a report by Sammobile, the author states, “We of Sammobile heard a rumor that Samsung will release the Galaxy S III mini by the end of the year. The Samsung Galaxy S III Mini will try to fight the Apple iPhone 4S with a 5 megapixel camera, dual-core processor and 4.0” Super AMOLED screen with WVGA resolution. The Samsung Galaxy S III Mini will cost only 250 euro compared to the iPhone 5 that costs around 650 euro with the same screen size.”

From the looks of it, it appears that the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy Note II are not the only handsets from Samsung that seek to put an end to the competition that they are to face by Apple when the Cupertino brand announces the iPhone 5. If the Galaxy S III mini does launch, it would be a much cheaper option and should come loaded with a plethora of features that is found in the 4.6-inch version of the smartphone.

This is not the only handset from Samsung that is looking to quash the upcoming iPhone and the report claims that Samsung will release a variant to the Samsung Galaxy S II. This year’s model will be titled the Galaxy S II Plus, but unlike the few details that were present with Galaxy S III mini, there are no details provided for the Galaxy S II Plus smartphone except that it will feature a price tag of approximately 300 to 400 Euros.

These devices are scheduled to be announced by the end of the year in time for Christmas.

Samsung recently unveiled the Galaxy Note II, another handset that looks to go head to head with the Apple iPhone 5. Here is a quick look at the major features of this handset:

5.5-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen with a 1280 x 720 pixel density
4G LTE, EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n (2.4 and 5GHz), Wi-Fi HT40, NFC
GPS with GLONASS and A-GPS support
Bluetooth v4.0 with USB 2.0 Host
8 megapixel AF/ Touchfocus camera with full HD video recording and playback, 1.9MP VT Camera, BSI front facing camera
16GB, 32GB and 64GB versions, all with expandable support up to 64GB
2GB RAM
MHL for AV out

The Samsung Galaxy Note II has most of the specifications that had been speculated in the past. Also, Samsung has thrown in a new feature that can potentially change the way mobile phones are used. Apart from the fact that it features the Android 4v.1 (Jelly Bean) OS out of the box, and is powered by a 1.6GHz quad-core processor, the major talking point about the Galaxy Note II is that it features the all-new Air View.
