Akai launches Android powered TV companion box in India for INR 6,590

Consumer Electronics brand Akai has announced the launch of an Android powered TV companion device today. Dubbed as Aka Smart Box, it will be available across India at a best buy price of Rs 6590/- (M.R.P. Rs. 6990/-).

The Akai Smart Box works with any television, be it CRT, Plasma, LCD or LED and turns it into a smart TV, on which you can browse web, or use Android application.  This TV companion box also comes with Google Play support, so you download any many apps you want to your device.

On the connectivity front, Smart Box comes with Wi-Fi support, Ethernet port, 3G dongle support as well as 2G network support (probably via a SIM card, but unconfirmed right now).

Aka Smart Box has been powered by 1.25GHz processor and Android 2.3. It also comes with 4GB internal storage, microSD card slot, HDMI port, and 4xUSB2.0 Ports. It also support a variety of audio and video formats.

“It has been our constant endeavor at AKAI to offer products with state-of- the- art technology coupled with great consumer offering and the AKAI Smart Box is a step forward in this direction. Product life span in today’s digital age is short; buy anything and by the time you’ve stepped out of the shop it’s already outdated. Our Smart Box is set to change the way television is seen in India. Customers can upgrade their existing TV to a Smart TV which gives Full HD viewing experience without changing their existing TV. Even consumers who are planning to purchase Smart TVs can choose to buy a normal LED TV and connect with our Smart Box to get the benefits of Smart TV at a fraction of the price,” said Pranay Dhabhai, Managing Director, AKAI India.
