The company has decided to do away with the ambient light sensor form the 5th generation iPod Touch as 'there wasn't enough space to accommodate the sensor'
Apple's fifth generation iPod Touch do not have ambient light sensing functionality as the company has decided to do away with the sensor that controls the brightness of the display in accordance with the ambient light.
The issue caught light when a number of users discovered that the new device did not feature the auto brightness feature and one of the concerned users, identified as Raghid Harake, emailed the same issue to Apple, reports iDownloadblog.com.
What followed was even more disturbing as Apple senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing Phil Schiller replied to the email saying that the slimness adopted for the new device is the reason why the company had to do away with the ambient light sensor.
The lack of the automatic brightness control is not such a big issue for the device but overall functionality provided by that small little feature could cause discomfort and could potentially lead to reduced battery backup as well.
But unlike any software issue with the portable devices, this problem is such that cannot even have a solution even if the company decides to give users one. And Apple's explanation of the slimness of the device being the reason behind all this certainly leaves many users perplexed.
Now will the exclusion have some effect on the sales of the new device, certainly waits to be seen. But one thing is for sure that there are no solutions coming for this issue what so ever.
