Aircel bringing Micromax like cheaper smartphones

Aircel will launch a number of smartphones which include a 5 inch smartphone with 8 MP camera.

Aircel and Magicon, an India based handset manufacturer, will launch at least three new smartphones tomorrow. Of the three phones, one seems to be a competitor of the Micromax Canvas II and will come with Android 4.0, 5 inch screen, 1 GHz dual core processor, 8 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2000 mAh battery.

Aircel invite reads 'Smartphones for Smart people at smart price' which points to low pricing of these smartphones. Since, Canvas II is priced at Rs 9,999, we expect this new phone from Aircel and Magicon, which has been named as mNote, to have a same price tag or less.

The other two phones that are expected to be launched are ultra-low cost handsets with Android 2.3 operating system, and are named as M1 and M2. The M1 comes with a 3.5 inch screen, 1 GHz processor and a 5 megapixel camera but will not offer 3G and is expected to be priced around Rs 5,000. M2 on the other hand comes with similar spec as M1 but offers 3G and thus will be priced slightly higher.

Magicon also has lined up some tablets but Aircel seems to have decided to launch only the smartphones. Aircel will also offer bundled voice and data tariffs with the smartphones, however we do not see any subsidy coming from the operator.
