Flipkart launches eBook app for Android


Flyte, the eBook store, has a selection of more than 1 lakh books, with around 4000 free titles.

Online mega store, Flipkart has announced that its digital store, Flyte, will now also sell eBooks for Android phones and tablets with a special dedicated application. Currently, Flyte has a selection of more than 1 lakh books, with prices starting at Rs 30, while around 4000 books are available for free.

The eBooks purchased on Flyte can only be read through the Flyte eBooks app, which is currently available for Android based devices only, while its Windows 8 version will be launched soon.

Sameer Nigam, vice president, Digital, at Flipkart.com said, "We have a growing, tech-savvy reader base that is constantly on the go - and they are looking for options to buy and read their favourite books on their mobile devices instantly. In the USA and European markets, which have been early adopters of eBooks, the market share for digital trade books is currently at 50 per cent."

Flyte eBooks will offer Indian readers ability to instantly purchase, download and read their eBooks on a mobile device. A free sample of each book is also available on the website as well as on the mobile app.

Flyte allows users to read each eBook on up to six devices and also Sync reading location, which means reader can exit your book on a particular device and start reading from the same point in another device. One can also take notes, highlight text, search, and add multiple bookmarks.
