Videocon to launch two new Android phones

Videocon will launch A30 with a 4 inch screen, 1 Ghz dual core processor, and A20 with a 3.5 inch screen and 1 Ghz Qualcomm processor.

Videocon has been silent for the better part of the year and have announced only a few feature phones of late. However, that phase seems to be over as the company plans to launch two new Android phones with very decent specification, called Videocon A30 and A20.

The Videocon A30 and A20, which recently appeared on Flipkart as coming soon, have very contemporary specifications. The A30 is a dual SIM phone and comes with Android 4.0 operating system, 4 inch screen, 1 GHz dual core processor, and a 5 megapixel camera along with a 0.3 megapixel secondary camera in the front. A 1500 mAH battery will be powering the device. The phone is expected to be priced at or below Rs 8,500, and will be made available in next couple of days.

The Videocon A20, on the other hand, will be an entry level product with features like dual SIM, Android 2.3 operating system, 3.5 inch screen, 1 Ghz Scorpion processor from Qualcomm, a 3 megapixel camera at the back and a 0.3 megapixel in front. It will have a 1350 mAH battery. Surprisingly, it supports only 16 GB of external memory. The price is expected to be below Rs 6000 mark.

Videocon had launched its first Android phone in the form of Zeus almost two year back. This long gap means Videocon will have a tough job at gaining re-entry into the log end segment of the Android smartphone market currently dominated by Micromax, Karbonn and Spice. There is an intense price war going on within the domestic handset players and that would mean unless Videocon prices the phone well and brings a lot of variants, it will not have much chance at breaking into the market.
