Sony has risen to prominence this year and has been regarded as the second best Android manufacturer after Samsung. And going by the rumour mill, it appears that the brand will be pushing the envelope in 2013 as well. An Esato forum member who goes by the handle coolkid8689 has revealed some information about the upcoming device from Sony – a smartphone with 6-inch 1080p display, APQ8064 processor and 3GB of RAM.
The forum member states, “I pitched my naming convention to a friend of mine at Sony Mobile, he is going to take it to management because it makes much more sense than their current naming scheme.
Xperia 4 - 720p ~360PPI, 12MP, MSM8960T, 1.5GB, microSD, 16GB, 1800mAh
Xperia 5 - 1080p 440PPI, 13MP, APQ8064, LTE, 2GB, microSD, 32GB, 2400mAh
Xperia 5R - 1080p 440PPI, 13MP, APQ8064, LTE, 2GB, microSD, 32GB, 2800mAh, water resistant IP57
Xperia 6 - 1080p ~370PPI, 13MP, APQ8064, LTE, 3GB, microSD, 32GB, 3500mAh
That is what the rumours point to and if they use the naming scheme I passed on to my friend then that is what the Q1/2 Sony mobile line up looks like at the top end.
I have a Q4 rumour to share as well:
5" 1080p, quad core A15, 3GB, 3000mAh, 16MP, around the same size of Yuga, no IP57.
Still early design phase though, so the specs can change at any point between now and October...”
From the looks of it, it appears that Sony Mobile has four handsets that boast of above average specifications and are scheduled to launch in 2013.
The Xperia 4 appears to be the lowest end handset in the list as it features a 720p display that sports a pixel density of 360ppi. However, it appears that Sony is also adding a ton of other interesting features to the fold such as a 12MP camera, 1.5GB RAM and an 1800mAh battery. It is hard to believe that even with these high-end specifications, it is the lowest end model amongst the handsets mentioned.
The second and third handset, the Xperia 5 and 5R feature nearly identical specifications such as a 5-inch 1080p display that sports a pixel density of 440ppi, LTE, 2GB RAM, 13MP rear camera and 32GB of internal memory. The only difference between the two is in the battery; the battery on the Xperia 5 is 2400mAh while the Xperia 5R is said to feature a 2800mAh battery.
The biggest news of the post is the last handset, the Xperia 6. This upcoming smartphone is believed to feature a 6-inch 1080p display with a resolution of 370ppi, LTE capabilities, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of onboard storage along with a microSD card slot and a whopping 3500mAh battery.
If these rumours do turn out to be true, then it appears that Sony Mobile’s smartphone fortunes are going to be good and it will pose as a worthy competitor to the like of Samsung.
More on the same should be known by next year if Sony does plan on introducing these handsets with the above mentioned specifications.
