Karbonn to launch quad core processor based smartphone soon

It is expected to be a feature rich as well as costly smartphone.

Home grown, Karbonn Mobile is going to launch a quad core processor based smartphone in the Indian market soon.

"We will be launching a MediaTek MT6589 based quad core phone very soon in the Indian market," a spokesperson of the company told The Mobile Indian.

Though the Spokesperson did not elaborate on the feature set, but considering its MediaTek MT6589 chipset, it is expected to be a feature rich smartphone. The handset is also expected to come with Android Jelly Bean operating system.

Announced last month, the MT6589 chipset supports 3D cameras and displays, and built-in high-end camera features such as face beautifier, a panoramic mode, best shot, and a smile shot feature. The processor can support up to 13-megapixel camera, and 1080p video playback as well as recording.

The Karbonn handset will also become the first quad core smartphone to support dual SIM functionality. Going by the history of Karbonn and Mediatek, the phone is going to be a low cost one and our guess is that it will be priced below Rs 15,000.
The MT6589 chipset is based on ARM's Cortex-A7 design and will be clocked at 1.2 GHz per core.

It is to be noted that Lava, another Indian handset manufacturer, is also working on a quad core processor smartphone based on Nvidia Tegra 4 chipset. Qualcomm has also announced its quad core chipset solution recently, however phones based on this chipset will arrive only by mid-2013.
