The free app allows user to send SoS message with location details at the touch of button.
Three engineers from Nashik in Maharashtra have created a mobile application to help women in distress. The app called 'Me against Rape' is available for free from Google play store for Android smartphones and tablets.
The app allows user to raise alarm by sending text SMS with location details to predetermined numbers and keeps tracking the location every 10 minutes and sends updated location to those numbers.
It also triggers the camera of the smartphone to record the incident so that it can be used as legal evidence. The app also disables (optional) calling and SMS so that perpetrators of crime do not discover that victim is using the phone.
The application also comes with tips to help females avoid such incidents. The app comes with a widget for easy access during emergencies.
