Quad core Xolo smartphone this March

Nvidia Tegra 4 is said to have six times more graphics power than Tegra 3, which is what the HTC One X uses.

Xolo, a brand of Lava Mobile, will launch an Nvidia Tegra 4 quad core processor smartphone by March this year. S N Rai, co founder and director of Lava International, told The Mobile Indian, "We are in the process of evaluating the option to launch an Nvidia Tegra 4 smartphone. While Nvidia is yet to release a reference design based on the latest quad core chipset, we are hopeful that we will be able to bring a product based on the chipset by the end of February or March this year".

While he did not disclose other details about the handset or the chipset, as per the details available online, Tegra 4 will pack six times the graphics power of Tegra 3, which is currently used in high end smartphones including HTC One X. Nvidia Tegra 4 will be manufactured with 28 nm fabrication technology and will have a compact design compared to the Tegra 3. The Tegra 4 will feature four processing cores and a fifth battery saver core. It will pack 72 graphic cores to deliver six times better graphics power compared to Tegra 3 mobile processors, and twenty times the processing power of the Tegra 2. The Tegra 4 is based on an ARM Cortex-A15 processor design and will compete with Samsung Exynos 5 as well as Qualcomm's Krait based Snapdragon processors.

Nvidia Tegra 4 can support large displays with up to 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution and can also playback full 1080p HD at 120 Hz, apart from other advanced features. Nvidia Tegra 3 powered Google Nexus 7 is a low cost device priced at just $ 199 or Rs 11,000 (though it is available in India at a much higher price,) which means that Tegra 4 devices might also be priced very high.

Given Xolo's history, we expect it to be priced attractively. Currently, Indian handset makers are on a spree to develop smartphones with qHD displays, 5 inch screens, 8 megapixel cameras and other high end features. If it improves on all fronts, Xolo will be a great phone at an attractive price.
