Nokia delays Lumia 620 launch in India

The phone was to be launched in the first week of February.

Nokia Lumia 620, the cheapest Windows Phone 8 based smartphone, was supposed to be launched in the second week of February, as per Nokia's plans revealed at its unveiling in January this year. But now it seems that Nokia has delayed the launch of the phone in India owing to some unknown factors.

For the last one week we have been getting emails and phone calls from our readers across India about the availability and price of Nokia Lumia 620 and Nokia is yet to come out with a response despite repeated queries from The Mobile Indian.

In January, when Nokia launched the Windows Phone 8 based Lumia 920 and Lumia 820, along with the Lumia 620, we had hailed it as the right move because it was the first time that Nokia had launched a complete portfolio - entry, mid and top segment, in one go.

Then, Vipul Mehrotra, director, smart devices, Nokia India, had said to The Mobile Indian, "The aim of this move is to address the needs of different consumers who have different budgets. What this essentially means is that if you want to buy a Nokia Lumia smartphone, budget will not be a hindrance."

Just to remind our readers, Lumia 620 has a dual core 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 mobile processor and it features a 3.8 inch touchscreen ClearBlack LCD display with multi-touch point support. By default, this display supports 480 x 800 pixel resolution natively and carries a polarisation filter on top for better visibility under sunlight. Other display related features of Lumia 620 include an orientation sensor, light time-out, proximity sensor, colour boosting and brightness control. Nokia has also added its exclusive bit of services such as Nokia Music, Mix Radio, Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive, Nokia City Lens, and Nokia Transport.

These applications will come pre-loaded on the phone. Nokia Lumia 620 has 8 GB on-board storage, of which some will be reserved for the system. Thankfully, this smartphone comes with a micro SD card slot to expand memory. The Lumia 620 will have only a 1200 mAh battery, which might be a problem.
