Samsung announces Galaxy Star, Galaxy Pocket Neo smartphones

Samsung has taken the wraps off Galaxy Star and Galaxy Pocket Neo smartphones at the on-going Samsung Africa Forum 2013. Powered by Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean, both budget phones will be released in African markets in the coming weeks.

There is no word on the availability outside Africa or the pricing of these phones.

Samsung Galaxy Star S5280 features 3-inch QVGA display, 2MP rear camera, 4GB of internal storage, 512M RAM and dual-SIM Always on support. The smartphone however seems to support Edge networks, there is no 3G (we are looking into it and update the post, if there is indeed 3G support).

Galaxy Star also comes with 1200 mAh battery, Bluetooth 4.0, and microSD card slot.

On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy Pocket Neo packs 850MHz processor, 3-inch QVGA display, 3G, and 2MP camera. The phone also features 512MB RAM, 4GB of internal storage, microSD card slot, dual-SIM always on support and Bluetooth 4.0.

In related news, another budget Android phone from the Korean manufacturer Samsung Galaxy Y Plus was spotted on company’s India website. The smartphone is expected to be officially launched in the country in the coming days.

To remind you, Samsung is going to launch its flagship smartphone Galaxy S 4 later today at a press event in New York. You can follow our detailed coverage here.
