Mozilla has promised a less cumbersome payment of apps, digital media and online shopping through Firefox OS.
Mozilla Foundation is working to enable web payment in its ambitious Firefox OS project. With the new implementation, consumers would be able to make payments quickly and through several payment gateways.
Firefox OS engineer Kumar MacMillan posted about the issues related to web payments and the implementation of the new payment function in Firefox OS. With the new payment function, Mozilla hopes to rope in several online payment merchants. Of course, all payments will be backed by a secure interface and ease of use.
Mobile payments are not as high as estimated because consumers are not confident and comfortable sharing their credentials at any random payment service. Also, the entire process of purchasing an app or digital media turns cumbersome when the user has to enter credit/debit card details over a small mobile screen.
MacMillian stated that payments should be a first class feature of the web. With the payment feature implementation Firefox OS aims to make consumers more confident about making payment, ensuring that the payment credentials are handled securely and guarantee payments to merchants after the goods are delivered.
Firefox OS is working to cover a large number of merchants and payment service providers for making it easy to purchase digital goods and shop online. At this moment, the payment integration is experimental.
