Micromax Canvas 3D to be unveiled this week

Looks like Micromax is about to scupper yet another Samsung announcement. The Gurgaon-based company will be announcing its next Canvas smartphone this week, we have learnt from reliable sources. The announcement will follow closely on the heels of the Samsung Galaxy S4 launch in India, which is scheduled for April 26 in Delhi.

The Micromax Canvas 3D, which will most likely have the model number A115, will be the first from the company to sport a 3D display. The rumoured specs of the device have been doing the rounds for the past few weeks.

Of course, we don’t have any confirmation about the specs of the device, but according to the rumours, it will have a 5-inch WVGA resolution display capable of beaming 3D images and videos. Under the hood, a 1GHz dual-core processor is said to be ticking along with 1GB of RAM. The Canvas 3D will supposedly ship with Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean with 4GB of internal storage and microSD card support.

One online retailer has even listed the phone as coming soon with unconfirmed specs. The smartphone is expected to sport an 8 megapixel rear camera with LED Flash and a 2 megapixel front-facing unit.

There’s even a picture of the phone with the listing, which shows a rather plain-looking handset with nothing to tell it apart from a horde of Indian smartphones, including Micromax’s very own A116 Canvas HD.

Earlier this month, several purported images of the Canvas 3D were leaked on Twitter, which showed a slightly familiar-looking 3D apps interface. The UI of the 3D apps looked quite similar to the interface used by LG in its Optimus 3D smartphone.

The Canvas HD has been a hugely popular device, with the first batch of the smartphone getting sold out within 24 hours of its launch. However, since then, shipment and production delays have hampered the availability of the Canvas HD. Micromax has even issued an apology for the delay and will be throwing in some free goodies to make up for the delay.
