Google TV updated to Android 4.2.2

Chrome for Google TV now at par with desktop version

Google TV might have missed a chance to be on stage at Google I/O 2013 keynote but that does not mean, it is missing in action. The official Google+ page of Google TV Developers has announced that Google is now updating Google TV to Android 4.2.2, which is the latest version of the platform available right now.

Google has also revealed that it has changed the latest Google TV version to make it easy for the OEMs to push updates faster than ever.

“Today, Google TV is moving to the latest version of Android (Jelly Bean, 4.2.2), and we’ve refactored Google TV so that our TV OEM partners can update to future versions of Android in a matter of weeks rather than months,” Google TV team wrote on Google+.

This is not all, TV team has also stated that Chrome for Google TV is now moving to latest version of Chrome and it will keep updating in sync with other Chrome versions every six weeks.

“Today Google TV is also moving to the latest version of Chrome, and from now on Google TV benefits from Chrome updates on the same six week cycle that you’ve come to expect from Chrome. In Chrome on Google TV, we’ve added support for hardware-based content protection, enabling developers to provide premium TV content in HD within their web apps,” Google TV team added.

The consumer Google TV devices should begin to get the new software updates in the coming months but it will depend on the manufacturers.
