Sony is launching its next-generation SmartWatch in the next few days and the first details about this smart wearable have leaked online. According to a report in CNET, the upcoming SmartWatch will pack some significant feature upgrades over the current model, which is sold in the market around $100.
Given the recent teasers posted by Sony Mobile Twitter account, the announcement of SmartWatch II at the Mobile Asia Expo 2013 is almost certain. The expo runs from June 26 to 28, so we will not have to wait much longer.
CNET notes that a source with information on Sony’s plans has told it that the company’s next-generation SmartWatch will run on Android and feature capacitive buttons like in Xperia smartphones. The wrist watch will also reportedly come with a bigger display than present in the current-generation model (1.3-inch).
In addition, Sony SmartWatch will include NFC hardware that will provide one touch pairing with compatible smartphones. The company offers similar feature in its accessories for pairing with smartphones and tablets.
The device is also said to be minimally water-resistant but the exact details about the same are unclear right now. There is also no word on the exact availability or the pricing of this SmartWatch.
If done right, this upcoming SmartWatch will get Sony the early mover advantage in this product category as Apple, Google, Samsung and LG are also rumoured to be working on their variants of smart watches, set to be released in future.
