IRCTC sets up a shopping site powered by Yebhi

The e-ticketing arm of the Indian Railways has launched its own e-commerce site. The new shopping site is powered by Yebhi.com and there's now a “Shop” tab on the main IRCTC webpage.

shop.irctc.co.in retails goods for men, women and kids, and you will find clothing, accessories, home décor and furnishing, kitchenware, phones, tablets and other electronic devices. However, a closer look reveals that it is simply Yebhi's shopping site with the IRCTC logo and a white background slapped on instead of Yebhi's logo and background.

With crores of registered users and lots of traffic during the infamous tatkal booking hours, this is definitely a great move for IRCTC. However, IRCTC has received a lot of flak from users and we hope Yebhi leaves no stone unturned in managing the platform.

Yebhi reportedly grabbed the deal last month. Infibeam, which had earlier teamed up with the Gujarat government for a rural e-commerce initiative called Vishwagram Bazaar, had also bid for IRCTC's mandate.

While it is nice that IRCTC plans to bring in some more revenue, we do hope they don’t ignore their prime concern e-ticketing, which still requires a lot of attention.
