BSNL and MTNL have signed an agreement to create a synergy between both companies and offer services together for offering mobile telecommunication services pan India.
India's two public sector telecommunication service providers - BSNL and MTNL have signed an agreement to share their network services across India. This partnership will focus on key areas such as mobile communications, infrastructure sharing and enterprise business of information technology and telecom services. This step has been taken to battle with the rapidly growing market share of private telecom operators.
MTNL (Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd) operates in some of the key areas of Delhi and Mumbai circles. BSNL offers mobile telecommunications, Broadband Internet and Fixed-line services in about 20 telecom circles in India. As of now, both the companies have decided to share assets such as buildings, mobile masts and ISD phone networks.
AK Garg, chairman and managing director, MTNL, said, "We will be signing service level agreement and are committed to provide the agreed service delivery and service assurance. An enterprise vertical on the similar pattern of BSNL has been also created in MTNL on the philosophy of customer segmentation. This will help us to design and provide customised services as per their need."
Both telecom operators will work together to offer better services across India at most economical rates. BSNL will get to use MTNL network to provide roaming services to BSNL customers in Delhi and Mumbai region. Similarly, MTNL will get to use BSNL network to offer roaming services to MTNL subscribers in the 20 circles where BSNL offers it services except Delhi and Mumbai region.
"We are going to provide cost-effective solutions for their pan India requirements. We are going to share the resources of each other, which will ultimately bring down the cost of operations.", said RK Upadhayay, chairman and managing director, BSNL.
