Nokia Asha 500 press image leaks; hints at WhatsApp for Asha platform

We’ve got the first glimpse of the yet-to-be-announced Nokia 500, but it's not official just yet. An alleged press image of the device has leaked thanks to serial leaker EvLeaks.

The Nokia 500 looks very much like the Asha 501 and this image shows a red body. Reportedly, it will be similar to the Asha 501, but come with dual-SIM capability. While it takes design cues from Nokia 501, We can see translucent edges, which gives the phone a faux-glass look. While we have nothing in the way of specs, if this image is indeed bang on the money, we will soon have WhatsApp on the Asha platform. As expected earlier, WhatsApp is likely to be made available for both Nokia Asha 500 and 501.

The photo gives us a clear look of the display and the WhatsApp notification is hard to miss. Nokia has replaced the physical button seen in the Nokia 501 with a capacitive button. The camera on the back doesn't seem to have a flash and there's no front-facing camera either, which tells us this is unlikely to be a 3G phone. The two cellular connections are clearly seen as well.

Considering the phone is about the same size and build as the Asha 501, it would most likely have similar specs. Check out our review of the Asha 501 here. The Asha 501 sports a 3-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen display with QVGA resolution, 3.2-megapixel camera (without flash), 1200mAh, and support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and microUSB 2.0. We don't know when the Asha 500 will be announced, but Nokia is set to unveil its first ever phablet, the Lumia 1520 on October 22.
