Samsung says its next smartphones will have 64-bit processing

Well, this didn’t take long. In light of the Apple iPhone 5s announcement, which packs A7 64bit processor, Samsung co-CEO and Mobile chief JK Shin has revealed that their next smartphones will come with 64-bit processing power. He was speaking at his regular weekly meeting with chief executives of Samsung’s key affiliates, reports The Korea Times.

“Not in the shortest time. But yes, our next smartphones will have 64-bit processing functionality,” Shin said. It is very likely that he was indicating at Samsung Galaxy S5 while making these comments as S5 is going to be the only smartphone worthy of putting 64-bit processing support in the near future. He did not reveal any other details about Samsung’s plans to include 64-bit processing in its smartphones.

More focus on China and Japan

Shih however was more focussed on Apple’s intentions for Chinese and Japanese smartphone markets. He said that Samsung will expand its business in these countries to better compete with Apple.

“Samsung understands that Apple intends to boost its mobile business in China, as well as in Japan, meaning that we should try harder in these countries,” JK Shin noted.

Another Samsung executive has stated that Samsung recently got permission from China to put TD-LTE technology on its devices, so the company is planning release devices with both support TD-LTE and FDD-LTE in China ahead of previous schedules.
