Canonical is getting ready to release the stable 1.0 version of its Ubuntu Touch OS on October 17, 2013. Along with launch of 1.0, the company will also be releasing stable builds of the OS meant for Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 devices, which are acting as the development devices right now.
The test images of the Ubuntu Touch OS for these Nexus devices have been available for some months now but stable builds should be the one to watch out for.
“As of today, we are exactly one month away from the release of Saucy Salamander. As part of that release, ubuntu is committed to delivering an image of ubuntu-touch, ready to install on supported devices,” Ubuntu’s Nicholas Skaggs wrote in a blog post.
There is still no word on the release of first devices that will come pre-loaded with Ubuntu Touch OS, but we shouldn’t expect them to appear before early-2014 at least.
Canonical is reportedly getting a lot of queries from manufacturers in the wake press coverage by its high-profile Ubuntu Edge crowd-funding campaign, which resulted in failure. So, chances are that the company might be able to offer some device related details with the release of Ubuntu Touch OS 1.0.
