Xiaomi announces 47-inch 3D Smart TV with Android-based MIUI TV OS

Branching out from its core smartphone business, Chinese start-up Xiaomi today announced its first Smart TV. Dubbed as Mi-TV, this 47-inch 3D Smart TV runs on the company’s MIUI TV operating system, which is based on Google’s Android.

This might be the first actual television from the company but Xiaomi has ventured in the TV arena before when the company launched stream-to-TV set-top box earlier this year.

Coming to the newly announced Xiaomi TV, the television is very slim with 2cm thickness at the thinnest point and just 4.8cm thickness at the thickest. It sports LCD screen made by LG or Samsung and is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 600 processor. The Smart TV also comes with 2GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage.

The Mi-TV features Wi-Fi connectivity, Bluetooth 4.0, and almost every popular streaming/sharing standard like Miracast, WiDi, Airplay, and DLNA.  The display resolution is full HD 1920x1080p and it supports viewing of 3D content.

Like other Smart televisions, Mi-TV owners will also have access to their own app store, games store and content store, which even includes a 3D video zone.

According to Xiaomi, Mi-TV goes on sale this October in a total of 6 colours.  Like the company’s smartphones, the company is keeping the Mi-T V affordable and it will cost just 2999 yuan ($490).
