Stable Ubuntu version released for Android

Canonical has finally released the first tablet Ubuntu for phones mobile OS for the Google Galaxy Nexus and Google Nexus 4 smartphones.

Canonical has finally launched the first stable version of its Ubuntu operating system for Android mobile phones. The new Ubuntu for phones has been made available for Google Galaxy Nexus and Google Nexus 4 smartphones only. This means that it will be supported by other Android smartphones.

Canonical released the Ubuntu for phones stable build for the evaluation and development purposes only. This build will run only on the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 devices available from Google. However, all features of the Ubuntu operating system will not work on Android phones.

The list of working things on both Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 includes connecting to GSM networks, WiFi, Phone calls-SMS, functional cameras, shell and core applications. The phone is accessible through the Android Developer Bridge tool too.

Do note that the Ubuntu for Phones build installation will wipe out every piece of data on
the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 devices. So we recommend taking full back up of the data before trying to install the Ubuntu for Phones build.
